Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $1,987,000)
The purpose of this project is to design, acquire and install the Alaska Land Mobile Radio (ALMR) System. This system will provide interoperability between law enforcement agencies and other first responders, while maintaining backward compatibility with existing VHF and UHF systems. In Alaska, the project represents the State of Alaska's contribution to a joint project with the Department of Defense. By sharing such a radio infrastructure, both the State of Alaska and the Department of Defense will be able to leverage their existing resources and reduce their required investment.
