Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $200,000)

Information sharing and interoperability both horizontally and vertically across the justice and public safety communities has never been more vital to national security. Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) seeks to continue development of the Justice XML Data Model (JXDM) and Dictionary (JXDD) version 3, which it initiated under the Department of Justice's sponsored Global Justice Information Network (GLOBAL). The dictionary and its underlying model are in the pre-release stage, but are rapidly becoming a cornerstone for information exchange within the justice community. GTRI proposes to continue to work with domain experts to refine and expand the scope of JXDD. GTRI also proposes to design and implement advanced JXDM capabilities that will increase efficiency of use, provide backwards compatibility and version control, support component search and retrieval, and enable users to map their local components to JXDD. Furthermore, GTRI will ensure JXDM evolution is consistent with the Federal Enterprise Architecture. As technical lead, GTRI will continue the analysis, design, prototyping, and testing required for JXDM and JXDD to achieve full potential. This will ensure a Justice Department lead role in E-Government, and more importantly, will provide a new level of interoperability and information/knowledge sharing throughout the justice and public safety communities.
