Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $745,125)
The North Carolina Department of Justice (Attorney General's Office) seeks to deal with the issue of the growing exploitation of children via the Internet. In particular, the Computer Forensics Initiative will take the initiative to address this problem by achieving four key goals. These goals are:
(1) Provide law enforcement officers access to technologically-advanced equipment and education on appropriate evidence collection to enable more effective prosecution of these cyber criminals.
(2) Provide enhanced support to the State Bureau of Investigation for prosecution of cyber crimes, thereby increasing prosecution of cyber crimes.
(3) Provide cyber crime prevention software to parents, educators and school resource officers that will enable these individuals to educate children effectively about the dangers on the Internet.
(4) Establish a centralized website of resources to educate parents, educators and school resource officers about how to prevent and address this type of internet crime.
