Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $248,375)
The Evidence Center Enhancement Project is designed to upgrade and replace the existing, outdated, inefficient evidence tracking system of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. This fourteen month project effort in the award of $334,000 will speed and streamline the evidence booking process, eliminate redundant data entry tasks, reduce booking backlogs, aid in the identification and punctual removal of evidence, and provide for an airtight chain of custody for the courts. Building upon the current implementation of a new Records Management System from Mobile Access Software Inc, the Sheriff's Department will upgrade the software and hardware technology to provide intuitive, reliable tracking of all booked evidence through the stations and the property warehouse, integrating the booking data with report data entered elsewhere in the RMS system. Non-quantifiable benefits include better reporting capabilities, swifter access to information by Sheriff's Department personnel anywhere on the network, and a redesign of the workflow process. Coupled with updated hardware technology consisting of high speed workstations, wireless long distance scanners and wireless barcode printers, the time needed to book an
article into the system, record a storage location, and retrieve it will be reduced by a minimum of thirty-five percent.
