Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2002, $187,598)
Project Summary for 2002-IJ-CX-K012
The proposal concept involves the application of a specific marker chemical on the hand either by direct or indirect methods. This chemical compound location would interface with an embedded emitter and detector, possibly within a weapons handgrip. The spectral properties of the chemical would be measured and if found to be within the appropriate criteria, the weapon would be enabled to fire. Commercially available chemical compounds and detection methods will be investigated. Once the appropriate chemical compound and detection methods are determined, a system design will be evaluated and modified into a final working concept.
