Project Summary for (2000-IJ-CX-K006) S-1
This award is supplement #1 to grant 2000-IJ-CX-K006, and focuses on the continued identification, characterization, and testing of DNA markers on the Y chromosome. In previous phases of this project, several forensically-informative Y-STRs and SNPs were identified and characterized. In this supplement, the grantee will expand and refine the battery of Y-STRs in order to maximize the resolution of paternal lineages in U.S. populations, redesign multiplex assays to include an optimal set of Y-STRs in a single assay, develop and test a software program (called SNPredict) which will be used to predict Y-STRs (i.e. , georaphical) information from Y-STR data, and expand Y chromosome databases using samples obtained from collaborating State and local crime laboratories. Overall, these studies will increase the capability of forensic laboratories to idetify the source of the male contribution in biological evidence.
