SRI International proposes to implement "Mitigating Demographic Bias in Forensic Speaker Identification." The purpose of this project is to thoroughly characterize demographic bias in forensic speaker identification and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate such biases. Project activities include research into sources of bias, model development, intern mentorship, and presentations (and paper publication) at conferences. Expected outcomes include an understanding of sources of demographic bias in all parts of speaker identification model development as well as improved models for speaker identification with reduced or eliminated bias.
