Introduction to Heat Transfer and Fire Measurements

Event Dates

Divided into three sections: Heat & Temperature, Heat Transfer, and Fire Measurements, this course was designed to teach users about heat transfer (e.g., convection, conduction, and radiation), about the types of measurements made during fire experiments (e.g., temperature, pressure, velocity), and about the instrumentation used to make the measurements (e.g., thermocouples, heat flux gauges). After taking this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the difference between heat and temperature
  • Understand the basic principles of heat transfer
  • Describe the instrumentation used to collect data in fire conditions and how that data is applied to the understanding of heat transfer
