Coordination Model

Description

Common barriers to effective coordination among agencies include communication, leadership, cultural, and legal and structural problems. Law enforcement, health, fire, emergency services management, and other agencies can minimize these barriers by developing self-regulating, long-term processes — or “coordination regimes” — that facilitate working together and lead to effective preparation and response activities. Failing to form coordination regimes prior to an emergency event can result in competition among agencies, which, in turn, can lead to ineffective planning and response.
