This is the preface to "El Libro de Referencia de Las Huellas Dactilares" (The Reference Book of Fingerprints), which was promoted by the Scientific Working Group on Fingerprint Analysis, Study, and Technology (SWGFAST) to provide information, education, training, and research for the international scientific community.
Abstract
The U.S. Justice Department's National Institute of Justice provided funding for West Virginia Forensic Science to support the project. A call for authors and reviewers for the chapters was issued to the entire forensic community. Those responding were asked to prepare a detailed scheme for each chapter they selected. Reviewers critiqued chapter introductions and outlines. Authors and co-authors were then selected for each chapter. In the history of fingerprint analysis, this book contains the greatest amount of information of fingerprint analysis under expert review in a single source.
