This is the second of eight chapters on "Crime Travel Demand Modeling" from the user manual of CrimeStat IV, a spatial statistics package that can analyze crime incident location data.
This Chapter, "Data Preparation for Crime Travel Demand Modeling" discusses the data requirements for the crime travel demand model. At a minimum, four types of data are needed for the crime travel demand module. One type of data is that obtained from each of the zones within a broader jurisdiction. A second type of data needed consists of matched crime data that cover both crime location and likely origin location. This data can be further broken down by crime type, time of day, day of the week, and other sub-sets of the total number of crimes. A third type of data pertains to socioeconomic and land-use features; and a fourth type of data captures the road system and the transit system. In addition, supplementary data can assist in expanding the predictive models. These data can relate to policies for strategic or planned interventions and data on the distribution of crime by zones. Sections of the chapter discuss each of the aforementioned data types. Also addressed are where to obtain the data and the creation of an integrated data set. Data-collection procedures and data integration are illustrated with data from Baltimore City and Baltimore County. 10 figures and 19 references
