The California Forensic Science Institute (CFSI) was created to build capacity to support public crime laboratories by designing and testing research in the application of advanced technology to forensic services.
Abstract
CFSI will continue the development of Web-based courses that will provide the California Criminalistics Institute of the California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Services the option of utilizing this resource in their training program. Also, additional firearms training courses presented by the Los Angeles Police Department are being developed into a DVD format from equipment purchased by the NIJ grant. A presentation was made by CFSI to train the Los Angeles Public Defenders on the NIJ published topic of "Principles of DNA for Officers of the Court." Outreach will continue to train and inform the forensic science community, law enforcement, legal professionals, political leaders, and the general public.
