This is the 2015 Annual report of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) System, which has a 21-year history of activities that provide scientific and technical support to the U.S. Justice Department's National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) research, development, testing, and evaluation projects.
Abstract
In 2015 NLECTC's Justice Technology Information Center (JTIC) began assuming many of the responsibilities formerly performed by the National Center. JTIC is both the initial point of entry for criminal justice professionals and other interested parties, and it is the clearinghouse that provides information to those constituents. The National Criminal Justice Technology, Research, Test, and Evaluation Center (RT&E) provides focused technology-related research, along with testing and operational evaluation of non-forensic technologies. Its efforts are intended to improve the capabilities of state and local law enforcement, corrections agencies, and courts. The Forensics Technology Center of Excellence (FTCoE) delivers practical and innovative technology transition and knowledge that bridges the gap between science and justice responsibilities. During 2015, the contract for the Small, Rural, Tribal, and Border Regional Center was terminated and replaced with a new component center, the Justice Innovation Center for Small, Rural, Tribal, and Border Agencies (JIC). It's mission includes identifying, evaluating, and disseminating technology solutions that meet the operational challenges of small, rural, tribal, and border law enforcement, courts, and corrections agencies. In its concluding comments, this Annual Report reaffirms the NLECTC System's continued commitment to inform and support NIJ in its mission to identify best practices and sponsor research and development that benefits the criminal justice community and addresses its most pressing needs. 7 exhibits
