With this solicitation, NIJ seeks to provide funding for operation of the Secretariat of Subcommittee 37 (SC 37) under the Joint Technical Committee 1 (JTC 1) of the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC).
One of NIJ’s legislated duties is to promulgate standards and conformity assessment activities that benefit law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies. This includes development of minimum performance requirements and testing of biometric technologies such as facial recognition software. To further that end, NIJ supports operation of the Secretariat of Subcommittee 37 (SC 37) under the Joint Technical Committee 1 (JTC 1) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The scope of SC 37 is the standardization of generic biometric technologies pertaining to human beings to support interoperability and data interchange among applications and systems.
