Cornell University proposes to collaborate with the Syracuse City School District (SCSD) in Syracuse, NY to evaluate Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCI-S). TCI-S is a trauma-informed program that teaches school staff to use trauma-informed practices to anticipate and de-escalate disruptive behavior, manage aggressive and challenging behavior, and help students learn social and emotional skills. The applicant proposes a waitlist randomized controlled trial in 19 elementary and K-8 SCSD schools to evaluate the impact of TCI-S. Qualitative interviews of school staff will explore the process of TCI-S implementation and mechanisms of change.
