Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2015, $23,183)
The Dinwiddie County Sheriffs Department seeks to enhance evidence processing practices with an on-site Forensic Workstation. This workstation will include a drying cabinet, which expedites the process of preparing evidence for transport to the state crime lab, as well as a fuming chamber, which will allow trained deputies to retrieve latent fingerprints from evidence of all shapes and sizes, and a dusting cabinet which will allow for proper dusting of latent fingerprints. This equipment will reduce the amount of time between evidence collection, analysis and results. Access to a fuming chamber and dusting station will also motivate officers to collect and process a greater amount of evidence from crime scenes, which will increase the likelihood of arrest and clearance of a greater number of cases.
