The OPD hopes to resolve at least two cold case homicides during the Omaha Cold Case Squad Intensive Case Review and DNA Analysis program. The resolution of these cases will bring peace to the victims families and will remind the public that cold cases are never forgotten. The goals and objectives of the program are: hire two (2) part-time CCS detectives to assist the squad with intensive case review to prioritize cold case homicides and identify solvability factors and possible DNA evidence sources; locate, retrieve, and send viable DNA evidence sources for analysis; conduct follow-up on cases with DNA evidence sources by coordinating with the Douglas County Attorneys Office, the OPD Crime Lab, and the former and current OPD employees; enter all eligible DNA profiles into CODIS and/or NDIS; and pursue the arrest and prosecution of suspects identified via DNA profile hits. ca/ncf
