Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $149,825)
The Solving Cold Cases with DNA Grant would allow the HCSO to implement a Cold Case Task Force (CCTF) that would focus solely on the investigation of these heinous crimes. The HCSO would like to ensure that justice prevails and that these potentially dangerous perpetrators are not free to live among society and continue to commit crimes. The HCSO also believes the families of the victims deserve answers and ultimately, closure. The funding from the grant would pay overtime salaries for the CCTF and also pay for DNA analysis of evidence. The proposed HSCO Solving Cold Cases with DNA Program will focus on the following: 1) the review and prioritization of 21 "cold" cases; 2) the retrieval and evaluation of biological evidence directly related to the 21 "cold" cases; 3) DNA analysis of biological evidence likely to yield results; 4) uploading the DNA profiles to CODIS if applicable; 5) follow-up investigations directly related to the "cold" case investigations. The HCSO has an experienced group of Investigators, Forensic, and Evidence Personnel that will comprise the CCTF and a plan of implementation to ensure the goals and performance measures of the grant will be met. ca/ncf
