Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $167,323)
The Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab (MVRCL) requests funding for the purpose of continuing a regional cold case squad. Over the past few years, the Cold Case Squad has been successful in solving cold cases. The crime laboratory will work with the regional law enforcement agencies in southwestern Ohio for cold case review services. The MVRCL Cold Case Squad has received NIJ funds through two previous NIJ grants. If this application is not funded, the MVRCL does not have the resources available to fund the continuation of the investigation of cold cases. We wish to continue to provide its cold case services to all of the agencies in its region with this funding. By establishing a strong, regional presence, MVRCL will provide comprehensive services to the seventy-six contract law enforcement agencies in their service region. Additionally, the services of the Cold Case Squad will be available to sixty-nine law enforcement agencies are in the service area that use the MVRCL on a case-by-case basis. This regional approach and cold case outreach effort will ensure that additional Ohio agencies have the opportunity to solve cold cases if evidence exists to do so. The expertise provided by the MVRCL to these agencies may be instrumental in their efforts to investigate and solve cases. ca/ncf
