Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2013, $511,438)
The Wisconsin Innocence Project, a clinical education program at the University of Wisconsin Law School, received Postconviction DNA Testing Assistance Program funding in FY 2009 and 2011. NIJ-initiated outreach efforts led to mailing over 7,000 applications for assistance, and WIP asks for a final round of funding to complete case review, and where appropriate, secure DNA testing. In doing so, WIP will fulfill the goals for its NIJ-funded program which has, to date, resulted in courts vacating the convictions of almost four individuals.
