Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $429,087)
The Michigan State Appellate Defender Office (SADO) proposes a 24-month intensive review of the sexual assault kits to review possible cases of wrongful conviction, analyze the evidence in these cases, and advocate for these clients. The SADO Postconviction DNA Testing Assistance Program will create a special unit tasked with review of the criminal sexual conduct convictions from the backlog of untested sexual assault kits.
