Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $150,000)
This project is a continuation of the development and law enforcement (LE) field evaluation of the AKELA through-the-wall standoff surveillance system, and the associated technical and programmatic tasks, initiated under the ARRA NIJ AKELA cooperative effort 2009-SQ-B9-K113. The program objectives are: 1) Continuation of the FCC licensing and waiver process for the AKELA through-the-wall standoff surveillance system, 2) Support ongoing LE user test and evaluation of the device over a range of operational scenarios for personnel detection and location behind building walls, and 3) incorporate multiple system use in LE building surveillance for increased detection resolution and, additional situation awareness information.
