Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $467,930)
Funding under this award will continue the initiatives previously undertaken with past NIJ cold case grants. This plan has used three Special Agents, hired specifically for this project to systematically initiate a county-by-county and agency-by-agency approach of identifying, reviewing, selecting and prioritizing unsolved violent crime cold cases that have the potential to be solved through DNA analysis from throughout Alabama. This is coupled with the analysis of DNA evidence by the project partner, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (ADFS), who has utilized the latest PCR based DNA technology on our casework analyze the evidence in an effort to solve cold cases.
