Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $35,658)
The Converse County Sheriff's Office proposes to identify, review and prioritize the existing evidence in three (3) of these cold homicide cases where women and children have been the victims. From this analysis, it will be determined what evidence is suitable for retesting. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Laboratory will, free of charge, provide STR testing on applicable evidence, however evidence needing Y-STR, Short Strain STR or MtDNA will be sent to private labs for a fee. In cases where a suspect DNA profile is developed or matches an offender in CODIS, the case will be considered "open and active" and will be investigated by two investigators currently assigned with investigations, in an overtime capacity.
