Rape Kit Backlog Reduction Program

The primary goal of this program is for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Scientific Services Bureau to reduce the department's previous sexual assault kit backlog and to prevent a future backlog. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Scientific Services Bureau has been building its capacity to work all requested cases in a timely manner. However, in addition to the elimination of the previous backlog, the Department has embarked on a very aggressive program to process every sexual assault kit collected in Los Angeles County. Personnel, equipment, supply purchases, and DNA interpretation software development are needed to achieve this goal and to improve DNA analysis capacity.
