The goal of this research project is to develop instrumental methods of analysis for paper, ink, soil, cotton, and glass using advanced instrumentation such as Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The benefits of these methods include high sensitivity coupled with very low sample consumption. This project will provide forensic scientists with a new tool to aide in the analysis of trace evidence.
