Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $4,000,000)
The Forensic Science Initiative (FSI) at WVU has played a critical role in the identification, development, coordination, and execution of forensic science resource and development projects that directly aid state and local forensic science laboratories for over 7 years.
Infrastructure developed during the period covered by this award will be coordinated with previous FSI projects and directed through the end of the granting period.
This proposal outlines programs, through provision of equipment, training, and technical assistance, improvement in the safety and effectiveness of law enforcement technology and improved access to such technology to impact Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies. The proposal addresses the needs of the forensic community as stated in the recent National Research Council report, Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward (2009).
