Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $598,636)

The primary objective of the proposed work will be the exhumation and DNA testing (nuclear and mitochondrial) of up to 149 post-mortem samples, all from unidentified bodies buried in Potter's Field. These DNA profiles will be uploaded to CODIS 6.0. Other objectives include: 1) continuing to lend expertise to other jurisdiction within the state by reviewing 25 cases; 2) continuing efforts to collect reference samples for testing and upload to CODIS 6.0; and 3) enhancing data management procedures to ensure accuracy of information.
