Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $197,245)
The purpose of these funds will be used for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to purchase crime laboratory equipment and software for testing biological evidence and hire a crime analyst to help cold case detectives identify, review and prioritize unsolved cases. The Homicide Cold Case Squad has solved twenty-five cases and has become a model for other police departments. The Sexual Assault Cold Case Squad has also solved thirty-nine cases and arrested seven serial rapists. Funds will also be used for overtime to 4 existing Detectives.
