Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $124,040)
The purpose of these funds will be used for Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) to hire a full time investigator to be assigned exclusively to the RCSD Cold Case Unit (CCU) who will coordinate all activities described in this grant application; prioritize identified cold cases based on their potential solvability; locate, collect, assess and analyze biological evidence through the use of internal and external DNA services; enter eligible DNA profiles into CODIS, and facilitate the adjudication or other appropriate resolution of the greatest possible number of these cold cases.
