Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $382,309)
With this proposal the Allegheny County Office Medical Examiner Forensic Laboratory Division (ACME FLD) intends to address the major bottlenecks remaining with the forensic biology processing scheme. The focus will be to address these bottlenecks, such as, manual microscopic examinations, data manipulation and transfer, and profile interpretation through the strategic application of automation and information technologies. Additionally, the laboratory expects to identify and remediate more subtle flow restrictions to create an optimized processing paradigm that can serve as a model paradigm for small forensic casework laboratories.
