Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $454,740)
The purpose of these funds will be used for the OPD's Special Victims Unit to evaluate 200 sexual assault cases with no known assailant identified that have occurred since January 2007; with fifty (50) of the most serious cases being selected for laboratory analysis. Based upon past experience with DNA profiles obtained from no-suspect cases, OPD anticipates a 35% 'Hit-Rate' through local, state, and national CODIS searching.
