Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $392,160)
The purpose of these funds will be used for the DNA Cold Case Apprehension & Prosecution (DCCAP) to utilize advances in DNA techniques to solve and prosecute cases in collaboration with the assistance of the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office and their Laboratory of Forensic Services. This agency also is partners with local victim advocacy groups to assist victims and families in dealing with violent crimes. The purpose of this funding to the DCCAP will be to identify violent crime cold cases with the potential for DNA analysis, identify and locate potential DNA evidence, perform DNA analysis on this evidence, and upload all qualifying DNA profiles into CODIS, with the ultimate goal of identifying and prosecuting the responsible person(s) for these crimes and bringing closure to the families of victim's within our community.
