Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $345,956)

The purpose of these funds will be used for the city of Fort Worth to pay overtime to an existing evidence technician for case review and prioritization in conjunction with a new Detective position for these tasks as well as investigation. Funds will also be used for the outsourcing of and DNA analysis. A total of 755 open cold cases dating back to 1966 have been identified and 62 of these cases are ready for immediate screening and processing related to potential DNA evidence. Reviews of the remaining unsolved homicide cases will also be done in hope of more potential biological evidence being found.
