Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $500,000)
The purpose of these funds will be used for the Vallejo Police Department to review approximately 8 sexual assault cases and 4 homicide cases per month for potential DNA evidence, increase the number of cases with samples yielding DNA profiles initially thought to be unsuitable, and increase the number of DNA cold case arrests. Also, work in partnership with the Contra Costa County and San Mateo County Forensic Laboratories, and the Solano County District Attorney's Office. The Vallejo Police Department will provide DNA related training for law enforcement personnel and prosecutors to establish a Cold Case Unit and submit eligible DNA analysis to CODIS.
