Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $285,664)
This Identix biometrics project will study the impact of fusing various Level 3 feature matchers with an AFIS quality Level 2 minutiae matcher in the specific case of identifying latent fingerprints. Level 3 matching will also be used to improve an already strong, AFIS quality, matching algorithm, making the results directly applicable to real world scenarios. The automated fingerprint imaging system will be compatible with NIST standards and interoperable with the FBI's IAFIS system and will provide an improved tool for use by state and local criminal justice agencies to combat terrorism and other types of crimes.
