Sensors, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence

This project will continue the maintenance, and execution of the Sensors, Surveillance and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence (SSBCOE) for the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) through its National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) System. The SSBCOE will support the Office of Science and Technology (OST) research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) process by assisting in the identification of state and local criminal justice agency technology needs and operational requirements; and coordinating testing, demonstration, and evaluation of new technologies emerging from the OST R&D cycle to assist state and local agencies with their purchasing decisions. Its efforts will result in the adoption into practice of improved tools and technologies for use by state, local, and other law enforcement agencies. Among other activities, this center will work to reduce forensic case backlog, through testing and evaluation of tools and technologies in such areas as latent prints, questioned documents, and digital imaging. nca/ncf
