Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $310,800)
The Greensboro Police Department will reexamine cold case homicides, stranger rapes and serious aggravated assaults by looking for potential DNA evidence that can lead to the identification of suspects leading to the ultimate goal of successful arrest, prosecution and conviction of the responsible offenders. It is proposed that 84 unsolved homicides, 7 rapes and approximately 75 serious aggravated assaults be examined for DNA evidence. This work will be conducted by members of the Greensboro Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Services Division. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Laboratory has agreed to perform the DNA analysis at no cost.
