Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $500,000)

The City of Minneapolis will use these grant funds to solve cold homicide cases through a team approach. This team will include the Minneapolis Police Homicide Unit, Crime Lab, Property and Evidence Unit, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, the Victim Intervention Project, Inc., and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Forensic Science Laboratory. This team will consist of the top professionals in each agency listed above, thus giving us the highest probability of a successful, measurable outcome in the number of cases solved. Once the cases are located and reviewed they will enter the processes of follow-up investigation, physical evidence location, DNA analysis (when possible evidence exists), and ultimately, prosecution of the individual(s) responsible for the commission of these crimes.
