Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $400,976)

The Illinois State Police has 191 cold case homicides and eight cold case sexual assaults dating up to December 2000. In addition there are 34 unsolved homicides and 12 unsolved sexual assaults dating from January 2001 to the present. With these grant funds the ISP plans to review the case files and select cases worthy of analysis. The ISP has obtained support from the Illinois State's Attorney's Association, the Illinois Attorney General's Office, and the Medical Examiner's Office. The funds will be used predominately for outsourcing of evidence and for cold case training of investigators.
