Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $224,696)
The main goal of this funding is to enhance the capacity of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (MNBCA) in processing missing persons cases to (1) increase the number of missing persons and relatives of missing persons samples currently being tested; (2) increase the number of missing persons and relatives of missing persons profiles currently in CODISmp; (3) decrease the backlog of missing persons' cases in the state. MNBCA working with the St. Paul Regional Office: Investigative Branch will utilize this award funding in part to identify/collect and expedite the DNA analysis of missing persons, unidentified dead remains, and family reference DNA samples. Remaining funding will be used to improve laboratory infrastructure which will reduce the length of time required to process missing persons DNA cases.
