These grant funds will allow the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) over-time pay for employees (Property Clerks, current and retired Crime Scene Investigators, and Detectives), who are familiar with evidence storage and case histories, to be able to research cold case evidence. MCSO will provide all supplies necessary to perform the examination, processing, and packaging of cold case evidence. Personnel will consult with legal advisors / prosecutors to research legal issues related to cold case investigations; determine statute of limitations; investigate search and seizure issues dealing with evidence previously collected; interview / interrogate potential suspects that have been identified through DNA testing; and relocate witnesses to interview. Cold Case Detectives will track cases under investigation, including lab submissions, evidence processed, DNA results, identification of offenders, and case dispositions.
