Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $200,000)
The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) proposes a continuation of the Governors' Criminal Justice Policy Advisors Project. As described in the original proposal, the goal of the project is to assist governors and their advisors in meeting criminal justice priorities by applying lessons from current research and by identifying strategies that states can apply to address criminal and juvenile justice policy issues. Major activities of the project include: ' Convening an institute for governors' criminal justice policy advisors; ' ' Hosting a policy forum for five state teams on forensic DNA; Commissioning a publishable paper on state progress on addressing DNA issues; and ' Providing ongoing customized expert consultation and assistance to all governors' offices.
