Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $493,614)

The core function of the Center on Quality Policy is to conduct research and analysis on critical and timely law enforcement issues. The Center will develop a portfolio of projects that will inform policy and practice by meeting several stated goals. First, projects will be of importance to the law enforcement community. Second, the Center will develop projects that maximize the ability to generalize findings. Third, taken together, the substance of the projects will span the Center's research agenda and its four core areas: best practices, performance measurement, use of technology, and force planning. Fourth, projects will maximize partnerships with law enforcement agencies. This will help ensure the Center conducts research important to practitioners, that research findings and policy implications will be vetted through police agencies so that they will offer practical value to other organizations, and that the Center builds long-term partnerships with the law enforcement community.
