Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $500,000)
New York City will develop a feature for the DNA Hit Information Tracking System (DNA HITS) known as smart notification. Smart notifications would bundle and deliver select information that is key to locating and indicting offenders identified through DNA matches, therefore achieving meaningful criminal justice outcomes like arrest, indictments, and exonerations. Upon identification of a DNA match, the system would conduct a sweeping query across disparate data sources at multiple City and State agencies, bundle relevant data into an organized communication about the given match or suspect, and distribute it in the form of a smart notification to the appropriate field practitioners, such as police investigators and district attorneys.
