The proposed research goal is to develop a methodology that will enable more accurate, reliable analysis of knife and saw tool marks in a more cost and time effective manner by conducting extensive research into knife and saw tool marks and identifying potential variables for analysis. Variables and methodology will then be tested in a comprehensive double-blind validation study to assess the most straightforward, useful methodology for accurate identification of the class of tool used to create the knife and saw marks in a body dismemberment or mutilation.
