The role of the forensic DNA laboratory at North Dakota State University is to provide nuclear DNA, mitochondrial DNA (mitDNA), an XY chromosome analyses for regional crime laboratories, particularly those from the nine states associated with the Midwest Forensic Resource Center. This laboratory will serve as a cornerstone to initiate a research program into improving the current analytical procedures used in forensic DNA analyses, and provide laboratory training for a new PhD degree in DNA Forensic Science.
