Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $240,404)
The goal of this DNA Research and Development project is to develop real-time PCR (RT-PCR) based methods to determine the tissue source of biological evidence. This will be accomplished by using RT-PCR to examine messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts that are specific for tissues of forensic importance. This research will complement current FBI-funded research being performed by the University of Central Florida, and will focus on tissues including (but not limited to) blood, urine, brain, heart.
