PROJECT SUMMARY 2003-WG-BX-1009
The proposed study will provide the first nationwide examination of courts' ability to assist limited English proficient women seeking protection orders. The researchers will examine court responses to LEP women and related practices, collaboration between the courts and linguistics minority communities, and services delivery models . Rheir multi method approach will encompass 1)a national survey a of county court systems, 2) an intensive survey of a subset of the national survey respondents and community -based organization CBOs serving LEP women, and 3) cases studies of individual court systems. The proposed project will be implemented in three phases: a geographically representative survey of 160 county based court systems currently employing promising services delivery practicies. The project will be guide throuhout the study period by a national advisory board. The board will help advise the research team on questionnaire development, case studies, and research products.
