PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 96-LB-VX-0313
The Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program was authorized by ì
the Omnibus Fiscal Year 1996 Appropriations Act, Public Law ì
104-134. The purpose of the Local Law Enforcment Block Grants ì
Program is to provide units of local government with funds to ì
underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety. ì
The Bureau of Justice Assistance will make direct awards to units ì
of local government when award amounts are at least $10,000. ì
Each State will receive an aggregate award which represents the ì
remainder of the State's allocation for local applicants whose ì
award amounts are less than $10,000. The State will distribute ì
these funds among State police department(s) that provide law ì
enforcement services to units of local government and/or to units ì
of local government which are ineligible for a direct award. All ì
funds will be used consistent with the statutory program purpose ì
areas specified in section 101(a)(2).
The Territory of American Samoa has indicated that it intends to ì
distribute its Local Law Enforcement Block Grants funds under the ì
following purpose area(s):
To units of local government, and to State police department(s) ì
that provide law enforcement services to units of local ì
government.
